Practice for today, December 26, 2012 has been cancelled due to the weather. 

January Meet information and Shirt ordering

New meet information is available on the meet schedule link.  We will  be attending the PRO meet in Huntington on the weekend of January 5-6, 2013.  Meet sign up is due December 13. 

Other January meets we plan on attending include:
Jan 18-20 FWA - Fort Wayne Nat.
Jan. 27 BSU - Ball State Univ.

Tracy Clark has worked hard on getting a design for a Jay County Swim shirt for all that are interested. The shirts will be black (t-shirt material or dri fit material) with a JAY swimming logo in red and blue outlined in white.  These are totally optional for parents, swimmers, grandparents or just anyone that is interested! Order forms and money are due next Thursday, Dec. 13th. No orders will be placed without money. Order forms are available on the desk.

Practice Reminder

Reminder that practice for Tuesday, November 27 and Thursday, November 29 will begin at 3:30pm. Please remember to check the practice schedule daily as times will be changing to accommodate High School practices and swim meets.

Reminders

Good Luck to all swimmers this weekend! We will have the majority of the swimmers at Oak Hill and there will be a few swimmers at the IM Extreme Games and the IM Ready Meet in Indianapolis for a two day meet. Warmups for the morning session at Oak Hill are at 7:00am for the 8 & unders and 11-12 year olds. Warmups for the afternoon session for the 9-10 and 13 & over will begin not before 12:00 noon. 

REMINDER: NO PRACTICE MONDAY, November 19!!!
As scheduled, there is no practice Monday due to a high school girls meet and the high school boys will be practicing after school. As the calendar states, we are offering practice for all swimmers on Wednesday, November 21.

There was a board meeting on Wednesday of this week and the board decided to donate 3 lane line discs to the high school.  This is done in exchange for us using the pool. If you haven't noticed, one of the lane line reels is completely broken and several are cracked and are in need of replacement.
Each disc is approx. $300.00 and the swim club is able to donate a little over $900.00 for this. Once again, we need to be very appreciative that we are not charged rent for the use of the pool and this is how we are able to show our appreciation!

Important information

Important information from the coaches:

New Castle meet:  If you are swimming in the afternoon session, you do not need to be signed in by 8:10 am.  This must be a mistake.  If you do not swim until the afternoon session, please do not feel that you need to be there by 8:10 am.  There should be a sign in for the afternoon session as well. 
The next piece of information is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT FOR ALL JAY COUNTY RESIDENTS (however, if you do not live in Jay County and want to show your support, you are welcome as well!)
Tuesday, November 13th, there is a Park Board Meeting and we are encouraging all of you to attend at 7:00 p.m. at the Portland Fire Station. We need to show our support for the Portland Pool. We are asking that you spread the word and invite all of your family members to this meeting. If we do not show our support and the need for an outdoor pool, it is very likely that it will not be open next season. This is not only for swim team members, but probably more important for those of you that visit the pool on a regular basis in the summer months. Please feel free to invite as many pool patrons as you can. Please get the word out and plan to attend.
In order for us to show our support, we are altering our practice next Tuesday. We will hold practice from 6-6:45 for all groups. Yes, everyone will be done in 45 minutes and we ask that you dress quickly and report to the fire station. (No showers!) Marcie, Bev and Missy would like to represent our community so we are doing what we feel is necessary. Your kids are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.

New Meet added

The CARD meet has been added to the meet schedule.  The CARD meet is the same weekend as the FAST meet (December 7-9).  You are welcome to attend either meet.  The FAST meet is a great meet for those that have Divisional and State cuts or anyone that is close to those cuts. The level of competition at the FAST meet may encourage your swimmer to achieve those time standards. . We are getting to the point where it is necessary to offer different levels of competition and unfortunately some of those happen to fall on the same weekend.

December meets

There are 2 new meets posted on the meet page.  December 1-2, 2012 TRAC meet with entries due November 8 and December 7-9, 2012 FAST meet with entries due November 1.  Information will be available tonight at practice. 

New Meet Info:

Bev will be taking anyone interested in swimming at New Castle on 11-10-12. Marcie and Missy will be attending a high school meet that day. Also, there is meet information for a meet at Oak Hill on Saturday, Nov. 17th. Bev will be taking anyone to this meet that is interested. Missy will be taking a group to Indy for the IMX Games. This is a qualifying two day meet and if interested, please check with a coach to see if you are eligible. At the conclusion of the morning session, there is an IM Ready Meet. We have not had anyone participate in this before, but I believe that this is open to anyone that is interested. All participating swimmers MUST compete in all events offered. So, some of you might need to decide which meet, if any, that you would like to participate in this weekend.

Jay Fall Invitational a Success

Thanks to all swimmers, parents, coaches and teams that made our 3rd annual Jay Fall Invite a success.  Your hard work is greatly appreciated.  This was a terrific kick-off to our 2012-13 season.

New Season, New Meets
Our first meets are linked to our Meets Page.  The first is our own Jay Fall Invitational, followed the next week by the FWA Fall Classic.  All swimmers will participate in the JAY meet, and all parents are needed to work.  The FWA meet will be for veteran swimmers only. 

Divisional Link

If you need information on the Divisional Meet, the entry letter is linked to the Meet Schedule page.  This meet requires qualifying times.  If your swimmer has a qualifying time, you should have received an email from Marcie.  Time standards can be found under the Links section.

Practices for Monday

As long as Jay Schools are in session tomorrow, (2-17), all practices will begin at 8:30 A.M. on Monday morning (2-20).  White Team will finish at 9:15, Red at 9:45 and Blue at 10:00.

Practice Changes for Week of 2-13

All practices for Tuesday, February 14 will start at 5:00.  White will finish at 5:45, Red at 6:15, and Blue at 6:30 (or a little before).  We are squeezing in between the boys and the middle school.  Practice for the Blue Team for Wednesday has been moved up to 5:15-6:15, as well.

Practice Changes

Practice for Tuesday, 1-31 has been changed.  All teams will now start at 6:30, with White Team finishing at 7:15, Red at 7:45, and Blue Team done at 8:00.  Blue Team practice on Wednesday has also been changed to 5:15 - 6:15.  In addition, remember that there is no practice on Thursday due to the sectional.

No Practice Today

Practice has been cancelled today (1-26) due to a three hour delay and a home swim meet.

LST Bearcat Invitational Posted

We are going to try to enter a new meet - The Lawrence Swim Team Bearcat Invitational at Lawrence North High School in Indianapolis.  The date is February 24-26.  Lawrence North High School is located just east of the Castleton exit on I-69.  Since this is the first time for us and this meet could be very large and competitive, it is recommended for Divisional swimmers only, or swimmers close to Divisional cuts.  Entries are due January 31.  The entry letter is linked to the Meet Schedule page and entry sheets are on the desk on the pool.

Practice Schedule for Monday 1-16

     If the weather cooperates, Jay Schools will not be in session on Monday, January 16th.  The practice schedule has all levels starting practice at 2:00.  White Team will finish at 2:45, Red at 3:15, and Blue at 3:30.
     If we get more snow than expected and Jay Schools are cancelled on Friday, 1-13, there will be school on Monday, since this is a built-in-snow day.  If this happens, all teams will start at 6:15 and finish at normal times (7:00, 7:30, 7:45)

TRAC Meet Due Thursday

The entry letter for the Three Rivers Aquatic Club Polar Bear Plunge is now linked to our Meet Schedule Page.  This is a two day meet February 11th and 12th in Ft. Wayne at the Helen P. Brown Natatorium.  Entry sheets are on the desk in the pool and are due to Marcie on Thursday, January 19th.  This a good meet for all level swimmers.
